City of Palmer Announces Transition to Palmer Sports Center
Palmer, Alaska — The City of Palmer is proud to announce that the facility formerly known as the MTA Events Center will officially transition to a new name: Palmer Sports Center.
This change marks an exciting step forward as the City looks to better align the facility’s identity with its primary use and long-term vision. While the MTA Events Center name has represented a valued partnership and a period of growth, the new name reflects the core of what the facility has become—a dynamic, community-centered hub for sports, recreation, and activity.
The Palmer Sports Center serves as a home for a wide range of programming, including hockey, curling, pickleball, soccer, and other recreational and competitive events. The updated name emphasizes the facility’s role as a premier destination for athletics and community engagement in Palmer and the surrounding Mat-Su Valley.
“This transition is about both honoring our past and positioning ourselves for the future,” said Kolby Zerkel, City Manager. “The Palmer Sports Center name captures who we are today and where we’re headed—focused on expanding opportunities for recreation, supporting local programs, and serving our community.”
The City extends its appreciation to MTA for its support and partnership over the years, which helped enhance the facility and broaden its offerings.
As part of this transition, the City of Palmer is also exploring new partnership and sponsorship opportunities within the Palmer Sports Center. Local businesses and organizations interested in supporting community recreation are encouraged to reach out for more information.
