The Palmer Ice Arena first opened its doors in January 2005, a project made possible through a combination of community donations, public funding, and a voter-approved bond. From the very beginning, this facility has been a reflection of Palmer’s commitment to recreation, youth development, and community connection. In later years, a naming partnership helped expand programming and provide consistent operational support. In 2023, the original bond was officially paid off—marking a major milestone for the City and its residents.
Today, the City of Palmer is proud to reintroduce this space as the Palmer Sports Center (PSC)—a name that reflects both its roots and its future. More than just an ice rink, PSC is a year-round hub for activity in the Mat-Su Valley. The facility is home to youth and high school hockey, a growing curling community, and a wide range of off-ice programming including wrestling camps, pickleball, and community events. Surrounding the complex are five full-size soccer fields that serve hundreds of local athletes each summer.
Demand for programming continues to grow. The ice season has expanded, curling leagues consistently sell out, and participation across all user groups continues to climb.
Today, the Palmer Sports Center welcomes more than 70,000 visitors annually—and growing.
Looking ahead, the City is planning for continued expansion, including the development of an outdoor rink designed with the future in mind as a potential second sheet of ice.
This facility exists because of community support—and its future will be built the same way.
We hope you’ll consider supporting us as we endeavor to enhance the facility, as well as build for the future.
