This permit does not relieve the permittee from responsibility for fire damage.
 

Who needs a Burning Permit? You do, if you fit the following criteria:

  1. The land where you plan to burn is within the city limits of Palmer.
  2. You plan to perform:
    1. Open burning of woody debris or fields of grass. (Class A or B)
    2. Small fires for the purpose of cooking or warming. (Recreational)
  3. The area in which you plan to burn is not covered by other burning restrictions.
     

What type of permit do you need & How do you get it?

Burn permits are classified by burn size. Please read the following descriptions to determine your needed permit.
 

  1. Recreational – Cooking or warming fire not exceeding 3 feet in diameter by 2 ½ feet high.
     
  2. Class A – Parcel size greater than 2 acres.  One pile of debris not exceeding 10 feet in diameter by 4 feet high or lawn/field not exceeding 1 acre with grasses not exceeding 4 inches in length.
     
  3. Class B – Parcel size greater than 2 acres. One pile of debris not exceeding 20 feet in diameter by 6 feet high or lawn/field not exceeding 2 acres with grasses not exceeding 6 inches in length.  Two piles under the class A parameters may be burned concurrently under a class B permit.
     

Palmer Fire & Rescue Recreation and Class A/B permits are issued for property owners wishing to conduct burning inside the Palmer City limits.

To obtain a burn permit, fill out the webform for the class of permit required for your burn.  A photo of the proposed burn area is optional, not required.

Prior to the permit being valid, an on-site inspection by the Fire Chief or his designee is required.  On-site inspections are generally scheduled for the THURSDAY after we receive your application.  Please assure your site is ready for inspection PRIOR to submitting your application.  If you are not available on Thursdays, please make sure the area is accessible for the inspector.  If it is not easily accessible, please call 907-745-3709 x2 to make arrangements.  (Site inspection may be delayed due to emergency calls taking priority)
 

Prior to lighting fire:

  1. Have permit on site with you
  2. Confirm burning parameters listed on permit are met
  3. Call the State of Alaska Division of Forestry burn permit hotline at 907-761-6312.

No burning permitted during State of Alaska Division of Forestry burn permit suspension Periods.

  1. Call Matcom Dispatch at 907-352-5401 ext 6 to inform them of the burn.
     

**Burning Permits are only valid for burning of wood, wood products or vegetation. Standing buildings are not covered under the above statement.  Must follow the burning terms and conditions on the permit.**
 

Call 9-1-1 for all escaped fires!

All properties outside the City of Palmer must obtain a Division of Forestry burn permit.
