Alaska Firefighter I

AFSC Firefighter I

Alaska Fire Standards Council

Training and testing for Firefighter I can only approximate the on-the-job activities of a firefighter. There are certain artificiality to training and testing that the candidate must be able to adapt to. Candidates must be aware that actual fire ground situations cannot be completely duplicated during final examination scenarios. For the best possible outcome during final skills examination, Firefighter I instructors must prepare the candidates to competently perform the skills listed in this packet throughout a training course.

  • All members are required to complete IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800.
  • All Fire Dept officers should complete the ICS300 and ICS400 classes (when the courses are offered. These courses are not available on the web).
  • Members taking Firefighter 1 must take Hazardous Materials Operations to become certified.
  • CPR & First aid is required as an emergency response firefighter

Printable pdf of the skills sheets. All skills listed in this packet are consistent with NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, 2013 edition. The Alaska Fire Standards Council (AFSC) provides these skill sheets as the basis for Firefighter I testing and certification.

For certification purposes, the final skill examination will consist of a series of mandatory skill stations and a selection of random skills from this packet. Hazardous Materials Operations Skill Sheets are requisite skills for Firefighter I certification. Candidates not already certified at the awareness and operations level are required to successfully complete the Awareness and Operations job performance requirements during final certification examinations at the firefighter I level.
