The City Council is composed of a Mayor and six Council Members elected in October with three-year terms.
Regular City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Periodically, the City Council holds Special Meetings. Meetings are held in the Council Chambers located at 231 W. Evergreen Avenue. Entrance may be gained through the glass door on the Cobb Street side of the building.

Elected as Mayor in October 2016, with a term ending in October 2022.
Mayor DeVries previously served as a Council Member from 1979 to 1982; 1996 to 1999; and 2010-2016. She is a former Mat-Su Borough Assembly member, former Mat-Su Borough Mayor, and State Senator. She is a former City of Palmer Treasurer/Finance Director. Mayor DeVries serves as Secretary for the State of Alaska Republican Party and is a Board Member of Kings Chapel in Wasilla. Currently she is employed by the Alaska Job Corps Center as an Accounting Services Instructor. Mayor DeVries resides in Palmer with her husband Noel. They have a blended family of 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Julie and her husband Tony own Backcountry Bike and Ski and the Pioneer Motel in downtown Palmer. Together with her husband, Julie is a very involved supporter of the outdoor community and programs that support the opportunity for our youth to become more active in the outdoors.

Council Member Best was elected by the City of Palmer voters to serve in October of 2006 and served four three-year terms before. He was re-elected in 2019 with his current term ending in October 2022.

Council Member Carrington was elected by the City of Palmer voters to serve in October of 2001 and served until October 2005. He was re-elected in 2013 serving two three-year terms. He was re-elected in 2019 to serve a two-year term with his current term ending in October 2021.

Sabrena works in Community Relations at Matanuska Electric Association and lives in downtown Palmer with her husband David, and two sons, Jackson and Riker. She served on the United Way of Mat-Su Board of Directors for six years and currently sits as President of the Mat-Su Minors and Secretary of the Academy Charter School Advisory Board. She was also a founding member of the Palmer Community Foundation. Sabrena is also one of the youngest recipients to ever receive the Pioneer Award, the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce’s highest recognition for volunteerism in our community.

Council Member Combs was elected by City of Palmer voters in October 2011, re-elected in October 2014, appointed in May 2018, and re-elected in October 2018. Her current term ends in October 2020. She is a member of the Governor's Alaska Commission on Aging.
Dr. Valerius moved to Palmer from Duluth, MN in 2003. She owns and manages Now Health, which is a membership based Functional Family Medicine practice in Palmer. Dr. Valerius is passionate about creating health, which requires community involvement at multiple levels, from sports and health, promoting activities to the environment and local food availability.
