Sergeant Edward Mooney was born and raised in Alaska, growing up in the Mat-SU Valley. After graduating from High School, he attended the University of Alaska, Anchorage pursuing a Criminal Justice Degree with a Minor in Russian language.  While attending the UAA he participated in the Mat-SU Police Explorer Program and the Anchorage Police Department Explorer Program.   In 2004 Sergeant Mooney attended and graduated from the Tanana Valley Police Academy and was immediately chosen to serve the City of Wasilla as a Police Reserve Officer.  In August 2005,  Sergeant Mooney was hired by the City of Palmer as a patrol Officer.  From 2012 to 2013, Sergeant Mooney was promoted to the position of Investigator, assigned to the Alaska State Troopers Mat-SU Drug Unit.  From 2026 to 2018, Sergeant Mooney worked as the Department Reserve Program Liaison.  From 2018 to 2021 Sergeant Mooney was promoted to the position of Task Force Officer and was assigned to the Anchorage District Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration Tactical Diversion Squad.  In June 2021, Sergeant Mooney was promoted to Patrol Sergeant where he currently serves.  Sergeant Mooney’s additional duties at the Palmer Police Department are serving as the department’s Range Master, Firearms Armorer and Field Training Officer.
